Cougars Prepare for NCAA Track and Field Outdoor Championships

DES MOINES, Iowa The University of Houston track and field team will send three individuals and a pair of relay teams to the 2008 NCAA Track and Field Outdoor Championships on May 11-14 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa.

Junior Seun Adigun will make her second career appearance at the NCAA Championships to lead the Cougars, competing in the 100-meter hurdles and the 4X100-meter relay.

Adigun enters this week's championships after placing fourth at the NCAA Midwest Regional with a time of 13.43 in the finals.

The first round of the 100-meter hurdles will be run on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. with the semifinals slated for Friday at 7:55 p.m. The finals will be held on Saturday at 3:50 p.m.

After posting the season's fastest time in the 400-meter hurdles in Conference USA, sophomore Jason Perez will make his first appearance at the NCAA Championships.

Perez finished fifth in the finals at the Midwest Regional with a time of 50.37 to earn an automatic bid in the national meet.

The first round of the men's 400-meter hurdles will be held at 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The semis will be held at 6:00 p.m. Thursday with the finals scheduled for 9:05 p.m. on Friday.

Also representing Houston is freshman Tyrone Carrier. Carrier earned a berth to run the 200-meter dash after finishing second at the Midwest Regional with a time of 20.60.

The first round of the men's 200-meter will be held at 5:25 p.m. on Thursday with the semifinals being held later that day at 6:45 p.m. The finals are scheduled for 3:44 p.m. Saturday.

The Cougar women also will be sending two relay teams to compete in the NCAA Championships.

Junior Dayo Ogunniyi, freshman Kalyn Floyd and sophomore Quin'shundolyn McPherson will join Adigun on the 4X100m team. McPherson, junior LaNeeka Allen, freshman Candyce Cross and Floyd will run the 4X400m.

 

 

CBS College Sports will be airing live coverage from the NCAA Championships on Friday from 7-10 p.m. CBS will also air a live broadcast from the meet from 3-5 p.m. on Saturday.
