Houston's Defense Makes Key Sack in 17-15 Victory
HOUSTON (AP) -- Mike Clark made a 35-yard field goal with 4:50 to play as Houston beat Southern Methodist 17-15 on Saturday night.
The Mustangs took their first lead with 8:06 remaining when Josh McCown threw a 2-yard touchdown pass to John Hampton. Coach Mike Cavan opted to go for a 2-point conversion, but McCown's pass fell incomplete and Southern Methodist held a 15-14 lead. Jason McKinley led Houston (2-3) with 338 yards passing, two touchdowns and no interceptions.
The Cougars opened the scoring with their longest drive of the season, a 14-play, 85-yard march in the first quarter. Kendall
Williams scored on a 9-yard shovel pass from Jason McKinley.
